Winning weekend for Lewes AC runners

Triple successes were achieved by Lewes AC athletes in the hilly Crowborough 10K plus team and individual successes in the Harvey Curtis sponsored Sussex Road Race Challenge.

Battling through the wind and over the hills in the two lap course David Bradford was a convincing winning of the race in a time of 35mins 08secs. Also winning the women’s race was Joscelin Lowden in a time of 41mins 23secs. Joscelin also led the Lewes AC women’s team to first position in the team event with a combined score of 34 points which was just two points clear of Wadhurst Runners with 36 points. The winning women’s team was made up of Joscelin in first position, Karin Divall in 12th position and Karen Morse in 21st position. As well as contributing to the women’s team win Karin Divall was placed third in her age category of women aged over 55.

There were also some other fine runs in the race by Lewes AC runners with Bob Hughes finishing second in the men over 65 category with a time of 52mins 23secs. Other Lewes AC runners with their positions and times are Ian Fines (42nd 42.45); David Foster (90th 47.34); Ian Hilder (115th 48.59); and Lucy Morrison (180th 53.24)

Not content with marking up some fine performances in the Crowborough road race the Lewes AC runners managed to leave other clubs and runners in their wake in the Harvey Curtis sponsored Sussex Road Race Challenge. This is a challenge that takes place over 5 road running events throughout the year and it sets the top 40 Sussex runners against each other. From their individual scores the club team positions are then calculated.

The women’s racing in the challenge events was dominated by Joscelin Lowden who won two of the qualifying races and was second in the other. With many personal bests her 7 points was unassailable and secured Joscelin an impressive win and the major trophy. Just behind in second place was Emmy Rollings with 17 points and Megan Taylor also with 17 points but edged into third position by count back. In 6th position was Helen Sida with a total of 28 points.

The Lewes AC men were also very high up in the points table with Matt Bradford finishing in second position with a total of nine points. Just behind Matt was his brother David who finished in third position with 13 points. Further down the finishing order were Lewis Sida in 5th position who also won the men over 45 trophy with 22 points. Chris Gilbert finished in 7th position with 30 points.

With such low scoring by the Lewes AC athletes ensured that Lewes AC with 5 team points won the team trophy by a wide margin from Arena 80 on 16 points. Haywards Heath Harriers were 3rd on 17 points and Brighton Phoenix 4th with 22 points.
