Lewes AC runners in medal chase in the Sussex Cross Country League
After 3 matches from the four that make up the Sussex Cross Country League the Lewes AC women’s team is leading the club’s chase for County medals. In the tough and hilly cross county course at Lancing the Lewes team packed their 4 scoring runners at the front of the race. This secured first place by a large margin from the team from Hailsham Harriers.
Joscelin Lowden had another storming run to finish in second place behind Emma Macready the international runner from Worthing Harriers. Megan Taylor with another run that marks her down as runner with tremendous promise finished in 9th place ahead of team member Emma Robertson in 10th and Emma Rollings in 11th. These positions gave the team first place with 32 points against the Hailsham team’s 51 points. After 3 matches out of the four league events the Lewes team is leading with 141 points ahead of Chichester AC with 182 points and Arena 80 with 217 points.
Close behind in the medal chase are the under 13 boy’s team who also came first at Lancing with a score of 22 points ahead of Brighton and Hove AC with 25 points. Leading the team in a closely fought third place was Will Carey followed by Jack Gardner in 7th and Sam Horn in 12th place. After three matches the boy’s team with 74 points has just been edged into second place behind Hastings AC with 69 points. The five points difference means it will all be down to the last race at Hickstead Showground in February.
The Club’s senior men’s A team also had a great set of results at Lancing which placed them second in the tough first division of the league behind Brighton and Hove AC. After three matches of the four now completed the Lewes team is also placed second overall behind Brighton. With six to score Josh Burgess finished very strongly in 8th place, Ben Savill 15th , David Bradford 17th, Matt Bradford 22nd Lewes Sida 24th and 4th man over 40 and Ben Matthews 29th.
Showing the current strength of the Lewes AC endurance runners the Lewes AC B team finished 7th in the first division with the following six scoring for the team Chris Gilbert 31st; Ben Pepler 36th; James Martin 52nd; Harry Strong 69th Chris Brown 72nd and Colin Bennett 76th.
The Lewes AC men’s vets team of over 40 men whilst placed third at Lancing are placed second in the league after three matches again behind the strong Brighton and Hove club.
The under 15 boy’s team were 6th in the match at Lancing with Ben Martin 5th; Ben Walters 16th and Alex Monson 29th. These team points when added to the points from the other two matches give the Lewes under 15 boys team 3rd position leading into the 4th and last match.
Showing that there is talent right down the age groups in the under 11 girls race Sophie Nurse was placed 3rd, Freya Hinds 4th and Emily Oakden 9th.
