Subs increase for 2016/17
November 2015 saw the opening of the newly resurfaced track which will herald a new chapter in the success and development of the Lewes Athletic Club. At this time the club committee took the opportunity to look to the future and to review what has been successful so far in the development of the club and what has been less successful. This review resulted in a range of key decisions being taken to ensure the club continues to thrive and prosper.
A key decision that emerged from this review was that the time and circumstance justified an increase in club subscriptions. In coming to this decision a detailed examination was undertaking into the financial implications of supporting those important activities that provide the basis of a successful club.
These activities include continuing to contribute towards the increasing costs of maintaining the athletics track and athletic equipment for which the club contributed over £50,000 in cash and kind towards the resurfacing. Also paying for the qualification of all new coaches and officials for which there will be an increasing demand as the club continues to grow. Also to maintain the situation where club members have free access to the track during club sessions and thereby do not have to pay a track entrance fee like other clubs.
In addition to reviewing factors internal to the club the committee also had regard to a wide range of external factors that have, and will continue to impact on the club. The first was that funds from government bodies of one form or another are almost certain to dry up as Government cuts become even more stringent. Payment of club and individual athlete affiliation fees to England Athletics and other bodies have already been increased and are likely to be increased again in the future.
Other costs for the hire of school accommodation, the Leisure Centre indoor facilities and other premises the club uses have or are increasing. Costs for arranging cross country and other events are increasing as are first aid and insurance costs. Throw into the mix the cost that the club pays for fees for athletes competing in Championship events and the cost of coach hire when travelling to league matches across the South East and we have a future of increasing costs and diminishing resources.
In the light of this the Committee decided that the time was ripe to increase club subscriptions that have remained the same for at least that last three years. The details of the increases are on the join us page of this website.
