Success Through Enjoyment

Lewes AC athletes compete at National level.

Competing on the National stage was Ben Martin who raced at the National Cross Country Championship at Nottingham over the last weekend. Competing in the under 15 boys race Ben had a fantastic race to finish 7th. This was the best position by any of the Sussex runners from the Sussex Clubs taking part in the National Championships. Ben was only beaten in his race by runners from large conurbations such as Middlesbrough, Southampton, Portsmouth and Norwich.

Also competing at a National level was Livvy Connor the Lewes AC pole-vaulter who was invited to compete at the British Indoor Championships at the indoor stadium at Sheffield on Saturday 28th February. Competing in the senior women’s pole vault Livvy finished with a very creditable 10th place with a vault of 3.75m. This again was a great result when competing against vaulters from across Britain.

Also competing against runners from across the UK were the Lewes AC runners taking part in the Brighton Half Marathon. Again there were some impressive results by club runners in a race with over 8,000 finishers. Having another storming run was Mike Ellicock who finished 14th overall and 2nd man over 40 in a time of 1.11.52 only beaten by a runner from Lancashire. Just behind Mike in 20th position overall and 4th over 40 man was Lewis Sida in 1.13.06 followed by Mark Cage in 77th place and 26th man over 40 in 1.20.30 with Lee Woodgate in 87th place and 30th man over 40 in 1.21.02.
