Race win for Lewes Runners at the Littlehampton Beach Run – PB’s at Phoenix 10K

25 Lewes AC runners took up the challenge of running the Littlehampton Beach Run which is part of the West Sussex Fun Run League. The challenge was not only running on the sand but also to challenge the other 20 clubs in the League and come away with a win. Both challenges were achieved in magnificent style.

With a potential of scoring a maximum of 85 team points in the race this was achieved by the Lewes runners resulting in a race win by the Lewes team. Leading the charge was Andrew Masters who in the race of 400 runners finished in 3rd position and closing down on the two in front of him. He finished just a few seconds behind them in a time of 29mins 14secs.

Next up for Lewes was Chris Hunt who finished in 9th position with a time of 30mins 50secs followed by Greg Emans in 13th position in a time of 31mins 18secs. Ed Wheeler had a great run and finished 25th with a time of 32mins 09secs.

Finishing 32nd overall gave Lara Barazzuol the second woman position with a time of 32mins 45secs. Not far behind Lara was Helen Sida in 59th position overall and 4th women with a time of 34mins 40secs. All the other 19 club runners scored points for the club which contributed to the total score of 85 points and a race win for the club.

Whilst 25 of Lewes club members were running at Littlehampton a further 15 members were in action in the Phoenix 10k race along the seafront at Brighton. Again there were some great results with many personal best times achieved and some high places in the age categories.

Top of the tree must be Lewis Sida who finished in 14th position overall in the race with 300 runners. This gave Lewis 2nd position in the over 40 men’s veteran category with a time of 35mins 28secs. Also having a great run in the over 50 age category was Jonathon Burrell who finished 29th overall but also 2nd in his age group. Tony Deacon also in the over 50 category came in 100th overall but 7th in his age group with a time of 41mins 32secs.

The first woman in the race for Lewes was Katherine Emery in 165th position overall but 9th senior woman with a time of 43mins 56secs. Following Katherine was Sarah Healy as 17th senior women in 47.05 and Karin Divall 11th the over 45 women’s age category in 48.00mins.
