Many personal best times for Lewes runners at the Bexhill 5K race

Despite a stiff headwind for most of the course over half of the 35 Lewes AC runners in the race achieved personal best times. Leading the Lewes charge in the race of 325 runners was Matt Bradford who finished 4th overall in a time 15:58mins reducing his PB by19 seconds. With an even better personal best improvement was Lara Barazzuol who was not only 8th senior woman in the race with a time 19:30mins but improved her PB by nearly 2 minutes. Megan Taylor who finished 20th woman with a time 20:40mins improving her PB by nearly a minute.

Showing that the old guys can also have great results and continue to defy the ageing process Bob Hughes came first in his over 65 age group. His race time of 23:35mins was an improvement on any 5k he has run in the last 3 years by a stupendous 5:40mins.

Also defying the ageing process was Jonathon Burrell who whilst aged over 50 was the overall winner of the tough Brighton Trailblazer race. This is an annual off-road 10k race that goes from the top of Woodingdean along Kingston Ridge, down through ‘Death Valley’ past the lost village of Balsdean, and then back up the trail nicknamed ‘The Snake’ to Woodingdean.

Other Lewes AC runners who improved their personal best times at Bexhill included Lewis Sida; Toby Baker; Shane Duncan; Joseph Webbon; Maddy Smith; Ruby Whyte-Wilding; Katherine Emery; Tara Twyman and Alessia Manco. Away from Bexhill and running in an Edinburgh 5K Sarah Healy brought her PB down from 22:33mins to 21:46mins.

The Bexhill race was the second event out of four in the 2014 Harvey Curtis Sussex Road Racing Challenge and it looks pretty certain that the Lewes team of three men and three women came first in the event.
