Lewes Athletic Club Celebrates Strong Performances at the Brighton 10k

LAC members sporting medals celebrate participating in the 2025 Brighton 10k

Thirty-two members of Lewes Athletic Club took to the seafront on Sunday, 16 November, to compete in the Brighton 10k, one of the region’s fastest and flattest race routes. Starting on Hove Promenade, 500 metres west of the i360, runners enjoyed a smooth, and wide course. Additionally the running conditions were perfect. Cool at 10°C, with a light drizzle, and a gentle breeze.

The race took participants west along Hove Lawns before looping onto the coastal road at Fourth Avenue, heading back towards central Brighton. Athletes passed some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Palace Pier, Sea Life Centre, and the Victorian arches, before an out-and-back section on Madeira Drive. Turning for home, runners swept past the i360 at 8km and pushed along the final stretch to the finish on Hove Promenade.

Lewes AC athletes delivered a series of standout performances across age categories:

  • Isaac Tarafder led the men home for Lewes AC, finishing 71st overall in 33:41, placing 8th of 42 in the Male Under 20 category.
  • Close behind, his twin brother Theo Tarafder claimed 76th place in 33:46, ranking 10th in the Male Under 20 category.
  • Women’s European and World 24-hour record holder Sarah Webster impressed with a superb run of 36:13, finishing as the 11th woman overall and 1st of 146 in the Female Veteran 45 category, and breaking a Club record to boot.
  • Jonathan Burrell secured another category win for the club, running 37:12 to finish 1st of 103 in the Male Veteran 60 category.
  • Clare Martin recorded a superb 39:51, ranking 7th of 156 in the Female Veteran 35 category.
  • Aaron Loughlin, competing in the Male Under 17 category, clocked 42:14, placing 6th of 14.
  • In the veteran women’s categories, Karin Divall finished in 49:31, taking 5th of 29 in the Female Veteran 65 category, while Fiona Wright ran 51:51 to earn 4th of 18 in the Female Veteran 70 category.

Sarah Webster and Jonathan Burrell have also achieved the distinction of qualifying for the England Masters, part of the England Athletics Age Group Masters programme, which recognises and rewards the vital contribution made by runners aged over 35 within the sport.

In addition, the club was represented by a strong contingent across senior and veteran age groups, with the following runners also completing the course:
