An individual and team win for Lewes AC at New Place Farm in the Sunday Cross Country League
With the rain and hail beating down 25 Lewes AC runners turned up on Sunday the 22nd December to do battle with the weather, other Sussex clubs and the wet and muddy cross country course at New Place Farm Blackboys. This was the third of six matches in the East Sussex Sunday Cross Country League. Just as the 163 runners started the race the weather relented and there was a blue sky with a rare appearance of the sun.
Patrick Hough started the race as he intended to finish at the front of the pack. This he did with style finishing in first position well clear of the next runners.
Not only did Lewes AC provide the winner of the race the Lewes AC team won the team event in fine style. With 20 team members to score the Lewes team finished with an impressive low score of 530 points compared to Hailsham Harriers in second position with 766 points. This result now means Lewes AC has won the first three of the six matches in the Sunday League.
There were also other impressive performances in the race with Jonathon Burrell finishing the first over 50 runner in 9th position overall and Andrew Masters the third over 40 runner in 11th position. In the men’s over 60 age category Peter Kennedy scored great points for the club finishing as the third over 60 runner in the race.
Sally Norris was the clubs first senior woman finisher coming in second in her age category closely followed by Caitlin Lloyd who was third in the same senior woman’s category. In the women’s over 45 age category Helen Sida had a great win finishing first in her category with Karin Divall third in the same age category. As the league is a team competition it is necessary to score points right through all the age categories. Supporting the team effort in the women’s over 55 age category was Bev Sheridan who finished third in this category scoring great team points.
