Lewes AC’s Herbie Belfield Wins Four Medals at South East Regional Sportshall Finals

A medal haul for Lewes AC's Herbie Belfield at the South East Regional Sportshall Championships

Lewes Athletic Club is delighted to congratulate junior member Herbie Belfield, who won four medals at the South East Regional Sportshall Championships at The Triangle in Burgess Hill this weekend.

Competing in the under-13 boys’ category, Herbie secured gold in the standing long jump. On the track, he earned bronze in the 2-lap (146.4m) sprint, before going on to claim two further gold medals as part of the Sussex team in both the 8-lap Paarlauf and the 4 x 2-lap relay.

Sportshall Athletics takes place indoors and combines fun and competition during the winter months for under-13 and under-15 athletes. The South East Regional Finals bring together the top young athletes from across the region, making Herbie’s medal haul a significant accomplishment.

Herbie’s individual success played a vital role in the overall team result, with the Sussex under-13 boys crowned regional champions at the conclusion of the event. This is the first time the team has won gold in the county’s history.

Lewes AC Chair Philip Westbury said, “Herbie’s performances at the Regional Finals reflect the hard work and commitment he brings to his training each week. To win four medals at this level is a tremendous accomplishment, and to contribute so strongly to the Sussex team’s overall victory makes it even more special. He is a fantastic role model for our younger athletes, and we are excited to see what he achieves next.”
