Lewes AC trio take on undulating 2026 Hellingly 10K
Three members of Lewes Athletic Club took on the undulating 2026 Hellingly 10K on Sunday, September 13, as the Sussex Road Racing Grand Prix reached its ninth fixture of the season.
Organised by Hailsham Harriers, the race saw runners tackle a single lap on country roads around Hellingly, starting on Station Road and finishing at Roebuck Park Cricket Pavilion. Run on open roads, the course provided a varied challenge compared with the flatter urban 10K routes.
Conditions were dry and mild for the Lewes runners.
Bob Hughes led the club’s results, winning the Vet Men 75-79 age category in 54:56.
Ian Hilder finished fourth of 10 in the Vet Men 65-69 category in 50:56, while Gary Loughlin completed the course in 51:55 in the Vet Men 55-59 category.
The Sussex Road Racing Grand Prix features races across East and West Sussex, with individual and team competitions covering a variety of distances and terrains. The series runs from March to November, allowing Sussex club runners to compete throughout the season.
Lewes AC Chair Philip Westbury commented: “Congratulations to Bob on another great age-category win, and to Ian and Gary for taking on the challenging, undulating course. The Sussex Grand Prix is a great way for our members to compete against runners from clubs across the county, and it’s fantastic to see Lewes AC represented at Hellingly. With three races still to come, and the next fixture hosted by Lewes AC, there’s plenty more running to look forward to.”
