The battle of the Hastings Half Marathon

Twenty five Lewes AC runners travelled to Hastings to do battle in the tough Hastings Half Marathon race. With nearly 3,500 finishers in the 13.1 mile race the Lewes AC runners came back with a stack of great individual and team results. Winning the Sussex Championship team gold medal for Lewes in the men’s over 40 age category were Chris Gilbert who came 18th overall and 3rd in his age category in a time of 78mins 57secs: Allan Jackson 46th overall and 5th in his age category in a time of 83mins 50secs and Andrew Masters 50th overall and 9th in his age category in a time of 84mins 18secs.

Across all the age group categories there were both great results and some near misses. Just missing out getting a medal in the men’s over 50 age group was Jonathon Burrell who finished 65th overall in a time of 86mins 01secs and 4th in his age group. There was a similar near miss for Helen Sida who finished in a time of 96mins 59secs and was 5th in her 45-49 age category. Allan Jackson whilst a scoring member of the gold medal team just missed an individual medal by coming 5th in his age category.

One of the happiest Lewes runners must be David Foster who had a great run and smashed his life time best by a big margin to finish in 98mins 37secs and 29th in his 50 – 54 age category. Colin Bennett followed up his win in the recent inaugural Lewes Marathon by coming 117th in the race in a time of 89mins 01 secs and 26th in his 45 – 49 age category.
