Muddy medals for Lewes AC at Bexhill
At the last of the four Sussex Cross Country League races over a very muddy Little Common course at Bexhill Lewes AC members came away with a bunch of individual and team medals. The title of muddy marvel must go to Chris Gilbert who won an individual gold medal in the over 40 men’s category and also a gold team medal. Winning his medals was truly a mud lark experience as evidenced by the before and after photographs of Chris shown in the photo gallery on this web site.
Robbie James won the silver medal in this age group finishing just a few points behind Chris. The Lewes vets B team came 5th showing the depth of talent in this age group within the club.
For the first time ever and following a first time promotion last year to the Leagues first division the Lewes AC senior men’s team scooped a silver medal up against all clubs from across Sussex. With 38 Sussex clubs able to enter the league this was a truly first class performance. Backing up the A team was the Lewes B team that came 4th in their division 2 only bettered by the C team who won a bronze medal in the league’s third division.
With the emerging talent in the women’s section of the club the senior women’s A team secured a really creditable 4th position in their division with the B team coming 5th in division two.
At the lower end of the age spectrum Ben Martin won the gold medal in the boys under 13 age category having not been beaten in all of his League races. Winning a silver medal in the boy’s under15 age group was Aiden Briffet. Whilst there were no individual medals in the men’s under17 age group there were nevertheless some really solid individual performances that collectively won the team the bronze medal.
Overall the Lewes club had seven men or women’s teams in the top five of their divisions putting Lewes equal first with the Brighton and Arena 80 clubs. Having won the East Sussex Sunday Cross County League last weekend at a very muddy Blackstiock Farm it must seem that Lewes AC members like the mud.
