Lewes AC runners take to the hills

On a bright and sunny Sunday 5th October 60 Lewes AC runners took part with 300 runners in the club’s own tough and challenging 10 mile and 5 mile races over the Sussex Downs.

Despite the tough course there were some excellent individual and age group results. First Lewes AC finisher in the 10 mile race in 4th place in a time of 63mins 07secs was David Robinson. This excellent race position also gave David first prize in the men’s over 50 age category. Next finisher for the Lewes club was Andrew Masters in 6th position in a time of 64mins.06secs. This position and time scooped Andrew first prize in the men aged over 40 group. Also getting a well deserved age group win was Peter Kennedy who won the men over 60 category in a time of 80mins 23secs.

The first women finisher for Lewes and second in the senior women’s category was Lara Barazzuol who completed the tough hilly course in a time of 71mins 20secs. Also having an excellent race and coming second in the women over 45 category was Helen Sida who finished 71st overall in a time of 75mins 54secs.

Two other Lewes women runners had great results with Karin Divall winning the women over 55 age category in a time of 85mins 11secs and Andrea Ingram who came third in the women over 55 age category in 96mins 53secs.

The race also gives the opportunity for runners from AS Marolles the club’s twinned athletic club based just outside Blois in France to come to Lewes to engage in a social weekend and to take part in the race. This year twenty AS Marolles club members travelled to Lewes and engaged in some friendly competition and much eating. First for the French club in the 10 mile race was David Mazeyrat in 78th who completed the course in a time of 77mins 08sec.

Not only did Lewes runners compete well in the 10 mile race there were also some great performances in the 5 mile race over the Downs. Winning the 5 mile race for Lewes was Toby Baker who completed the course in a time of 30mins 01 sec. Next was Chris Hunt who finished in 3rd position in a time of 32mins 18secs.
