Barns Green Half Marathon club and individual successes

Sunday saw 20 runners from Lewes AC take on the 32nd running of the Barns Green Half Marathon, one of the high points of the distance running calendar in Sussex.

This year temperatures were as high as 20 degrees and the sun beat down on the runners, thankfully shaded by woodland for large sections of the undulating figure-of-eight course. The Lewes runners were undaunted however and turned in a superb set of results.

The men’s team of Matt Bradford, David Bradford and Lewis Sida were first men’s team with 2nd, 4th and 8th places overall, and the women’s team of Lara Barazzuol, Joscelin Lowden and Helen Sida were second women’s team, giving the club overall victory in the team competition.

In addition individual team members won a number of individual honours. Matt Bradford (finishing in 1:13:57) was 2nd senior man, David Bradford (1:15:44) was 4th senior man, Chris Gilbert (1:19:07) was 1st vets 40-44 man, Lewes Sida (1:18:25 – a Personal Best) was 1st vets 45-49 man, Jonathan Burrell (1:27:41) was 3rd vets 50-54 man, Andrew Chitty (1:37:06) was 2nd vets 60-64 man, and Karin Divall (1:48:43) was 5th V50-54 woman.

Club members Katherine Emery (1:39:52) and Megan Taylor (1:39:57) both also deserve mention for dipping under 1 hour 40 minutes for the first time in a Half Marathon, despite the tough conditions.

Although this has yet to be officially confirmed, the results indicate that Lewes AC have retained their 1st place position in the prestigious Harvey Curtis Sussex Road Race Challenge, which is run over four different road events in the course of 2014. The Barns Green Half Marathon is the third event in the series, with just the Brighton 10k on 16th November still to go.
