Lewes Athletic Club Presents £2,750 Donation to Lewes Victoria Hospital Day Surgery Unit
The Chair of Lewes Athletic Club, Philip Westbury, presented a giant cheque for £2,750 to key staff at the Day Surgery Unit at Lewes Victoria Hospital and trustees of the Friends of Lewes Victoria Hospital on Friday, 13th February.
The donation was made possible through funds raised by the popular Lewes Downland Santa Run, held on 22nd December 2025. The festive event attracted strong community support, with more than 200 Santas and around 20 junior elves taking part.
Speaking at the presentation, Philip Westbury said the club was delighted to support the hospital and its vital work for the local community. He praised participants, volunteers, and sponsors for making the Santa Run such a success and for helping generate significant funds for patient care.
Sarah Pearson, Trustee of the Friends of Lewes Victoria Hospital, said: “Thank you to everyone who helped organise and took part in the Lewes Downland Santa Run and for their generous support. The funds raised so far will be used to purchase two flexible nasoendoscopes and a portable light source for our ENT clinics. One of our existing scopes is damaged and no longer in use, so this new equipment will enable consultants to carry out essential examinations during outpatient appointments in Lewes. This means patients can be assessed more quickly and conveniently, without needing to be referred elsewhere for further investigation, helping to improve both their experience and recovery.”
The Lewes Downland Santa Run has become a much-loved annual event, bringing together runners, families and supporters in festive spirit while raising valuable funds for this vital local cause.
