Lewes AC at the Brighton Half Marathon

With a field of 7,600 runners in the Brighton Half Marathon there were some great performances by Lewes AC members. With 30 club members taking part 18 finished in the top 10% of the race. This in itself was a great performance and when individual performances are thrown into the pot a truly great day for the club to match the unexpected and sunny weather on the day.

Leading the club members’ home in the 13.1 mile race was Mat Bradford who finished in a time of 73mins 07sec as 11th senior man. Equally impressive were Jonathon Burrell who in the over 50 men’s category finished in 5th position in a time of 83mins 45sec and Lewis Sida who finished 10th in the over 40 men’s category in 80mins 02sec.

There were equally great performances by Lewes AC women with Helen Sida finishing 24th in the women over 40 category in a time of 96mins 15sec and Lizzie Keep with a time of 95mins 34sec finishing in 59th position in the senior women’s age group.

The other finishers in the senior men’s category were Ben Messer (53rd – 80.28); Ed Wheeler (162nd – 87.19); Shane Duncan (154th – 87.06); Mauro Lazzati (215th – 88.56); Gustavo Iriarte (247th 90.15); Pablo Ibarquren (296th 92.25); Andy Bradbury (441st – 96.17); Josh Burgess (943rd 97.57); Mark Hood (530th 98.28);

In the veteran men’s over 40 age category there were some equally impressive positions and times. Just behind Lewis Sida the club’s leading over 40 runner was Mark Cage who finished in 48th position in 84mins 53sec followed by Colin Bennett who had a great run to finish in 51st position with a time of 85mins 11sec. Other club finishers in the category were Lee Woodgate (55th – 85.30); Mat Homewood (96th – 88.34); Mike Green (144th – 91.40); and Sandeep Sudan (58th – 110.08):

Not to be outdone the over 50 men also had some great performances in the race to back up Jonathon Burrell’s 5th position. Behind Jonathon were Jim Cooper in 44th position in 93mins 33sec and Gerard Dummett in 59th position in 95mins 59sec. Ian Hilder finished in 87th position in 100mins 45secs and Dave Foster in 98th position with a tine of 101mins 59sec.
