Josh Burgess leads 29 Lewes AC runners in the Brighton Half Marathon
29 Lewes AC members together with the 8,000 other runners tackled the Brighton Half marathon on Sunday. There were many life time best times achieved by the Lewes AC members with 5 Lewes runners finishing within the first 100 places. First across the finishing line for Lewes AC was Josh Burgess in 11thposition overall and the 4th Sussex runner in the race. His time of 1.11.42 was 2 minutes quicker than he has run before and makes him the 8th fastest Lewes AC half marathoner in the 33 year history of the club. As with most of the runners in the race Josh was running for a charity which in his case was a Sussex Heart Charity in memory of Alice Brinkhurst a daughter of one of the coaches at the club.
Lewis Sida followed Josh in 25th position in the race with a time of 1.14.27 a time that made him the 6th man aged over 40 to finish in the race. It also gave him an age graded score against world record times for the over 40 age group of 88.43% which is the highest score ever gained by a club member at any distance.
Close behind Lewis Sida was Chris Gilbert in a time of 1.15.06 making him the 7th man aged over 40 to finish. Completing the 5 Lewes AC runners to finish in the top 100 was Lee Woodgate in 65th place in a new personal best time by over one minute of 1.19.45 followed by Mark Cage in 96th place in 1.21.46.
Moving up into the men aged over 50 category Jonathan Burrell continues to impress and finished in 122nd place making him the 8th man in his age group. His time of 1.22.35 was just one second faster and one place in front of Gustavo Iriarte enjoying a race long battle between the two club members. Colin Bennett in 147th place overall with a time of 1.23.20 finished as the 10th over 50 man in the race.
Helen Sida competing in the women aged over 40 finished in 335th position overall in a time of 1.29.06. This time made Helen the 22nd women to finish and the 10th placed women aged over 40.
Two Lewes AC runners that also achieved massive new personal bests for the half marathon were Geoff Watson who was 7 minutes faster than his previous best time with 1.46.53 and Siobhan Boyer with a new time by 6 mins of 1.54.01.
