British silver medal for Ollie Hopkins in the British and UK Champioships.
Ollie Hopkins recorded one of his best performances to date to take the silver medal in the British and UK 5K race for under 17 walkers on the 23rd April. In blustery conditions at the Heathrow Cycle Track he finished the multi-lap 5K course in a time of 26mins 31secs.
Attacking from the start he finished ahead for the first time of the race walker from the Ashford Club who is currently the Kent County under 17 title holder. The strong northerly wind slowed times and affected the walkers’ styles so much so that Ollie along with most of the field picked up a penalty warning but this did not impact his overall performance.
Earlier this month Andrea Ingram and Ollie Hopkins took part in the 10K open race at Gravesend. Again using a new cycle track circuit Andrea, walking her first race over 5K finished with a time of 62mins which is a very good effort on a very hilly course: Ollie walking the same circuit took four minutes off his personal best finishing in 57mins 40secs.
