Lewes AC juniors impress at 2026 Sussex Schools Cross Country Championships

Lewes Athletic Club junior athletes produced a series of strong performances at the 2026 Sussex Schools Cross Country Championships at Waterhall, Brighton, on Tuesday 20th January.
Competing against hundreds of runners from across the county, pupils from years 8 to 13 raced in ideal cross-country conditions, with good weather and a course that was relatively firm underfoot.
The standout result of the day came in the Junior Girls Under 15 (Years 8/9) 3,000m race, where Lewes AC’s Ella Bartholomew claimed an impressive victory. In the Junior Boys Under 15 3,000m race, Harry Chapman finished second. Both athletes secured automatic qualification for the English Schools Cross Country Championships, which will be held in Liverpool in March.
Lewes athletes also competed across the remaining age groups, gaining valuable experience against the county’s strongest school runners.
Lewes AC’s Endurance Coach Dave Leach said: “Cross country is a tough discipline. It was great to see our junior athletes respond so positively in competitive fields. These performances reflect the hard work they put in and will give them plenty of confidence going forward.”
