The Lewes AC Christmas Park Run Challenge

Using the 5 kilometer Park Runs that take place every Saturday across the UK and abroad Andrew Chitty a leading member of the club organised the Lewes AC Park Run Day. His aim was to have a fun event taking place over the few days of the Christmas break and to award prizes to those that had most improved their times during 2013.

Never able to resist a challenge an impressive 44 runners of all ages ran 5K runs at eight venues in three countries. Locally Lewes AC members ran at Preston Park, Hove Park, the Lewes track and at Eastbourne.

Club members also took part in the event by running in Cardiff, Norwich, Southend and Copenhagen. Of the 44 runners taking part in the Park Run Day 12 set personal bests times.

Winning the competition for the women was Megan Taylor who ran a time of 22mins 21secs for her 5K with an improvement over her previous best time of 2mins 34secs. The runner up was Shelley Cornes with a time 22:02 giving Shelley an improvement of 2mins 28 secs.

The winner of the men’s category was Gustavo Iriarte who set a new time of19mins 56secs for his Christmas run giving him an improvement of 2mins:03secs over his previous best time. The runner up was Colin Bennett with a new time of 18mins 20secs and improvement of 1min 28secs.

Patrick McManus ran the fastest time for the men in the Christmas competition with a time of 17mins 14secs with Karin Divall setting the fastest time for the women with 21mins 41secs.

Chris Gilbert who had never run in a Park Run event before set the fastest time for a first-timer with17mins 52secs.

Congratulations must go to the four members of the Baker Family who ran a flat but very windy course in Denmark.
