Sussex Cross Country Championships at Bexhill
Not content with winning all three of the under 13 races in the Sussex County Cross Country League Ben Martin topped it off with winning the gold medal at the County Championships held at Bexhill. Again he was up against his Crawley AC rival but Ben took the lead from the very beginning and was never challenged over what was a very muddy and tricky cross country course at Little Common.
The Lewes AC under 15 boys team also had a great result coming away with the bronze medal in a highly competitive race. Leading the team home in 10th position was Sam Rogers closely followed by Aidan Briffett in 11th position with Jasper Baker making up the scoring three in 17th position.
Also winning a bronze medal were the Lewes AC under 17 women’s team. Ruby White-Wilding led the team home with a very strong run to finish in 10th position with Amy Davila in 13th position. Making a great return from an injury plagued season was Evie Rothwell who not only ran her first race for some while but completed the team in 18th position.
Just missing out of the medals in fourth position was the Lewes AC under 17 men’s team. Despite some strong running and close packing for the first three team members it was the Brighton and Chichester teams that claimed the medal places. First for the Lewes team was Patrick McManus in 14th position, James Martin in 16th and Harry Strong in 17th position. Sam Jackson finished in 21st position and Tom Stone in 23rd position.
There was no Lewes AC under 20 men’s team but Ben Pepler had a great solo effort to finish 7th in the County Championships.
With a seriously depleted senior men’s team it was left to the Lewes AC veteran men to fly the flag for Lewes up against the younger senior men from the other clubs. Not only was the Lewes flag gallantly flown for the club but the veteran men managed a great team position of 6th against the might of the Brighton and Hastings clubs. First of the scoring six to make up the team for Lewes was Chris Gilbert in 25th position followed by Lewis Sida (31st) Jonathon Burrell (38th) Andrew Masters (39th) Chris Hunt (48th) Alan Jackson (50th) and Mark Cage (55th)
