Lewes AC third team in the Downland Dash

On a hot Saturday afternoon last weekend 15 Lewes AC runners joined 200 runners at Hassocks to take part in the Downland Dash race a West Sussex Fun Run League event organised by Burgess Hill Runners. Despite it being a tough course and the temperature on the hot side for running there were some great results by the Lewes members.

The 15 Lewes runners were up against teams from the 20 clubs that make up the league many of which were fielding larger teams than Lewes. Nevertheless the Lewes team came third in the event with 74 points just behind Portslade Hedge Hoppers with 76 points and a team 26 runners and the winners Arunners with 80 points and a team of 29 runners.

The first two for the club were Ben Messer in 6th position and Jonathon Burrell in 7th position separated by only three seconds at the finish. It was nip and tuck between them throughout the race with Ben just getting in front at the finishing line in a time of 35mins 36secs with Jonathon finishing in 35mins 39secs.

The first women runner for Lewes was Helen Sida in 4th position in the women race and finishing 57th overall in a time of 41mins. The next woman runner for Lewes was Sarah Healey finishing 9th woman in 44mins 22secs and 96th overall. The other women gaining points for Lewes were Carole Walters 20th (46.40): Stephanie Crispin 31st (49.09): Anita Amies 33rd (49.25) and Helen Bowman 37th (50.17)

Others making up the men’s team were Lee Woodgate 14th (36.51): Martin Komen 26th (38.24): Andrew Chitty 35th (39.38): Mat Homewood 40th (40.12): Dominic Osman-Allu 51st (40.40): Simon Roberts 58th (41.18) and Jeremy Wainwright 100th (44.28)
