Kings and Queens of the Castle

With seventy teams made up of four runners from clubs across Sussex competing in the Herstmonceux Castle relays the Lewes AC men’s team for the first time in the club’s history won the event outright. It was very nearly a double win with the Lewes AC women’s team just missing top spot by a mere 4 seconds.

Each leg of the four leg relay was something over one and a half miles and the winning time by the Lewes men’s team was 30.06mins. Matt Bradford completed his leg in 7.14mins and was third fastest runner out of all teams, Josh Burgess finished in 7.18mins, Andrew Masters 7.45mins and Robbie James 7.49mins.

The women’s team just losing out on first place by the Hastings AC team finished with an aggregate time of 35.02mins with Emma Rollings running her leg in 8.30mins and finishing third fastest women runner in the event; Izzy Coomber 8.45mins; Lara Barazzuol 8.53mins and Lizzie Keep finishing in 8.54mins.

There were also some splendid individual and team performances by other Lewes AC runners with the Lewes AC team of Aiden Briffett (8.02) Sam Roger (8.03) Ben Pepler (8.02) and Patrick Mc Manus (7.49) finishing in a time 31mins 56secs and 4th team overall. Following them as 5th men’s team overall in 32mins 21secs was the team of Ben Martin (7.47); Tom Stone (8.20); Harry Strong (8.14) and James Martin 8.00)

The other Lewes AC women’s team finished in third position with a time of 37mins 22secs with Maddy Smith leading the way with a time of 9mins o3secs. Ruby Whyte-Wilding 9.10mins, Alessia Manco (9.45) and Gina Wilson (9.24) Special mention to Eva Johnston-Ellis (9.56) and Rosie Hobbs (10.45) who ran in a scratch team and finished 29th out of the 70 teams competing.
