In Memory of Angela Brinkhurst

In loving memory of Angela Brinkhurst | Lewes AC

We are deeply saddened to share that Angela Brinkhurst, one of our club and academy coaches and a long-standing club and committee member, passed away peacefully yesterday morning after a brave battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family at St Peter’s Hospice in Chailey.

Angela was instrumental in the success of our Junior Academy, laying the foundations for what we have today. She coached hundreds of young athletes over more than two decades.

Moreover, she led the junior sprint group, organised our popular summer camps, and inspired many juniors to become assistant coaches within the club.

Her enthusiasm, warmth, and sense of fun touched everyone she worked with. Angela’s dedication to the sport and to Lewes AC made a lasting impact, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

To honour her memory, we will hold a one-minute applause at the start of our Academy sessions this week. Parents may wish to inform younger athletes of the reason for this tribute before training.

An online book of condolences has been created, where members of Lewes AC — past and present — are invited to share their memories of Angela: angelabrinkhurst.muchloved.com

We will share further details about arrangements and opportunities to celebrate Angela’s life in due course.

In the meantime, our thoughts are with her family and friends.
