A great start to the Cross Country season by Lewes AC runners

Lewes AC runners continue with their winning ways at the Brooks Sussex Cross Country League race held at Goodwood Downs on Saturday 18th October.

Leading the way were the Lewes women who for the first time since the club was formed won the team prize in their race beating all Sussex clubs.

Also in winning ways were the under 17 men who claimed first and third team places in their event. Not to be outdone the under 13 boys were also the first team home in their race.

Moving up an age group or two the club’s veteran men were first and third in their division with the senior men’s A team third in division one, the B team third team in division two and the C team third in division three.

Making up the winning women’s team were Emma Robertson in 3rd place, Jocelyn Lowden in 7th Lara Barazzuol in 11th and Ruby Whyte-Wilding in 12th. The women’s B team also scored well and gained third placed team in division two with Nia Hall (21st) Megan Taylor (34th) and Helen Sida (40th)

The Lewes AC men had a great race with 6 Lewes runners packed together in the first 26 finishers of the 183 runner race. First for the senior men was Matt Bradford in 9th position followed by a closely packed group of Lewes AC runners led by Matt’s brother David in 21st position. Next was Chris Gilbert (23rd) Robbie James (24th) Andrew Masters (25th) who in the dash to the line just beat Lewis Sida (26th). These finishing positions gave the men’s team 3rd position just behind Brighton and Hove AC and Brighton Phoenix AC.

The men’s B team of Patrick MacManus (38th) Jamie Seddon (45th) Ben Pepler (51st) and Jonathon Burrell (53rd) were the first team in division two. In division three the Lewes C team of Allan Jackson (64th) Lee Woodgate (68th) Collin Bennett (79th) and Mathew Brass (83rd) gained third team spot.. In the veteran’s age category the Lewes AC team of Chris Gilbert (4th) Robbie James (5th) and Andrew Masters (6th) won top spot with the B team of Lewis Sida (7th) Jonathon Burrell (12th) and Allan Jackson (19th) finishing in the bronze medal position.

Also winning the team prize in their race were the under 13 boys A team of Leo Brewer who was third overall, Ben Walters (6th) and Jay Atkins (8th) The B team of Tom Nettleton (17th) Sam Horn (25th) and Jacky Shepherd (43rd) were placed in 10th team position.

As well as the great results by the Lewes AC women’s team the under 17 men’s team also had a stunning set of results. Leading the A team to first position was Aiden Briffett in 3rd place overall supported in 7th position by Toby Baker and James Martin in 8th place. The Lewes B team of Sam Jackson (10th) Sam Rogers (20th) and Harry Strong (23rd) secured third team position.
